The History of Colin Mann School.

Colin Mann School originally opened it's doors as  Lake View Primary School in 1946. The school was situated in the Government Village, near the banks of Germiston Lake. Upon opening, Lake View Primary had an enrolment of just 51 children and two teachers, the Principal, Mr R G Williams and Mrs Marks. The children were accommodated in two classrooms, one for Grade 1 and 2 and the other for Grade 3 to Grade 7. The school was housed in old army buildings that had been vacated after the Second World War and catered for children of the war veterans.

As the school grew in numbers, the need for a new school arose and the current school was built and named Colin Mann, after a school inspector who had written a series of mathematical textbooks. Occupation of the new building was taken in 1952, still under the leadership of Mr R G Williams, a position he held until 1975.

In 1976, a new principal, Mr J R Whitlock was appointed. At this stage the enrolment had grown to over 1000 learners. Under the guidance of Mr J R Whitlock the school continued to thrive due to the high standards that were in place.

In 1993, after 16 years as Principal, Mr J R Whitlock retired and was succeeded by Mr D O Ross who continues to manage the school today. The  school prides itself on the fact that it has only had 3 principals since it opened in 1946.

Today the school is looked upon as a leading school in the District, providing the community with an education that develops every aspect of each child.
